Mortgage Checklist

When applying for a mortgage, you will be asked by the lender to provide the following documents and information. Knowing in advance what the lender will ask from you may be to your advantage in order to expedite the mortgage process.

Personal Information:

  • home address for the previous two years
  • social security numbers
  • employment information for the previous two years, with the employer’s name, address and phone number
  • income information: salary, overtime, bonuses, commissions, dividends, interest, pension and social security payments, royalties, annuities, alimony payments
  • liquid assets: name of banks with types of accounts, balances, and source of down payment
  • assets: stocks, bonds, oil leases, life insurance, retirement funds, jewelry, automobiles
  • liabilities: creditors’ names and outstanding balances, alimony you pay, child support you pay, co-signed loans, bank and credit union loans, notes payable
  • real estate: property address, market value, outstanding liens, rental income, mortgage payments, taxes, insurance costs, maintenance dues

Property Information

  • purchase contract
  • if property is a planned unit development, co-op, or condominium: name of development and phone number of association
  • if property is new construction: year land or lot was acquired, original cost of land or lot, amount of liens, and estimated cost of construction
